False Unicorn is another North American medicinal treasure. It is a member of the "lily" family and grows in moist shady areas along the Mississippi River and a few other areas going as far north as southern Canada.
False Unicorn is high in Vitamin C, copper, sulpher, cadmium, cobalt, molybdenium, and zinc. It also contains high levels of steroidal saponins; which act as phytoestrogens.
False Unicorn is used to treat:
dysmenorrhea (painful periods)
amenorrhea (absent periods)
morning sickness
uterine prolapse
prevent miscarriages
diuretic
vermifuge (removes tapeworms)
mild depression
headaches
nausea
appetite stimulant
diabetes
kidney disorders
promote ovarian and prostate health
Only the mature root is of medicinal benefit. It can be consumed dry, powdered, or turned into a concentrated liquid (tincture).
False Unicorn takes a long time to grow (7 years before the plant is mature) and in some areas it is an "endangered" species"; so, check this out before you go looking for wild plants to harvest.
Proper dosage is no more than 1/2 teaspoon (2 grams) three times a day.
Do not exceed this dosage! Too much False Unicorn can cause cardiac arrest (heart failure).
