Squidoo Lens is on the First Page of Google

My Squidoo Lens, How I Make Money Writing, is now comfortably sitting on the first page of google for the keywords “make money writing”. For two weeks straight, I updated it every day. In that time I’ve noticed an increase in traffic (82 hits in the last 7 days) and it is ranked at 661 for overall Squidoo rankings.

This experience has taught me a few things.

1. Pick keywords for your lens and make it so the URL has those keywords in it. Although, that isn’t always the case. Search on “Make Money Online” and you’ll see what I mean. Supermom_in_NY has a lens that is on the first page for those keywords and “make money online” is not in the URL.

2. Update it every day.

3. Tell people about it on your blogs and in your profiles.

4. If you want to make money with your lens, you are better off promoting affiliate programs than relying on the modules to make you some money. I made $32 this month on affiliate income just from that one lens.

Squidoo is one of the best tools I’ve found to help you promote yourself. It has really caught on and people enjoy reading lenses as much as they enjoy making them. I gotta tell you, I am certainly addicted!

  4. I’ve been so distracted by my actual site, blogs, and the reviews I write for TitleTrakk that I haven’t had time! It’s something that I really want to get into though, and I’ll let you know how it goes once I get going. :) Congrats again!

  6. Thanks for the congrats! It’s really encouraging to know that Squidoo offers the potential of being listed on the first page like that. Not bad for a free site.

  9. Here’s looking at you Kidoo.. ;)

When I get all the linking figured out, I’ll try to create circles connecting other circles.

Making a large network of smaller circles.

I kind of get the idea of the lens, but I’m not sure I have it all figured out just yet.

  10. I started one yesterday, haven’t had a chance to finish. You wouldn’t believe how long it can take to look up these links! It’s a lense for lenses on writing.

  12. Neat! I hadn’t seen it, thanks for pointing it out. That looks like a good resource, actually.

  13. Gary,

That’s interesting - I think of things in terms of circles, too. My wall is filled with circular flow charts, which are all linked in a circular way. When we lived in Germany, I was actually pretty good at navigating through Munich (radiates out from the center) but I had trouble in Anchorage, which is a grid.

  15. I rated you at five stars. :)

  16. *blush* I was actually wondering where that came from. :) I know I rated at least two of yours at 5, but I can’t remember which ones. I’m assuming it’s the same ones linked on there…

  17. Thanks for keeping at it, things are bound to come around and when you find yourself running in circles or just off track, remember three lefts equal a right… :)

  18. Lol, I guess three lefts do equal a right! I never thought of it before, which is why I am probablybad at grids.
