Sometimes wishes come true.
When Gracepub introduced me to WritingUp.com in 2005, I was amazed. She told me about how great the community was and if I wanted to get the word out on my media projects, WU was the place to go. I have to admit—I procrastinated getting there, but once there I could only think–Gracepub was absolutely right. (Gracepub, wipe that smirk off your face!)
The sense of community, camraderie, and genuine friendship shared by WU writers was incredible. It was like friends who had grown up together since they were little kids. I don’t need to tell you that. You know what I am talking about. And the intellectual exchanges between authors was astounding. Comment threads ran like marathons. I remember thinking, “Wow, I wish I had thought of something like this.â€
I was absorbed reading blogs when I should have been writing them, but I couldn’t help myself. With almost every click, I found another blog that filled my mind with all sorts of possibilities, and enthusiastic entertainment. I looked at other blog communities, the Big Guys and well, they just weren’t like this one.
Recently, I tried to log in at WU. At first, I thought my browser had crashed or maybe my ISP went wonky because I couldn’t log in. Having recently made the dramatic move from the PC to a Mac, I thought that might be the core of the problem. I gave it a rest for a while, turning my attention to completing a deal for providing internet content to GoFish.com and coordinating the launch with them.
Weeks passed and I tried WU again. Gracepub filled me in with what she knew about the WU situation. Turned out my Mac was okay after all.
WU wasn’t.
So, an opportunity presented itself, and on May 27, 2007, Communati.com was born. (Let me state here for the “official record†that henceforth Memorial Day weekend 2007 shall be remembered as Communati.com’s birthday, and will be celebrated annually on this weekend.) ::fanfare music::
Wishes do indeed come true.
With chicken and potato salad?
A pie and cobbler may be useful for after the volleyball game.
Just a thought.

pass on the potato salad, but the cobbler—yes, must have the cobbler. Won’t be in any condition for volleyball after the cobbler though. Mmmm.

Yup, WU was something special all right, but I have a feeling this will be even better as there’s a chance to improve on some of the things we all found irritating.

I’ll bring my famous seven layer salad and some wobbly cocktails

While I have connected a bit elsewhere, this feels real good. I like it!
Thanks.

No wonder I didn’t see this site sooner, I was busy throwing myself a birthday party. No more research necessary, this is bound to be a cool site if it’s birthday is May 27th!
Yum! Cobbler….I’ll have to post the lazy cobbler recipe I recently invented.

how many will it feed?
Comment by Familyfunandfaith — June 2, 2007 @ 12:57 pm
It’s an incredibly selfish recipe, but I might be talked into cooking up a second bowl if you ask me nicely.
If I’m feeding more than two, it’s worth making a REAL cobbler, and not that difficult. But these days it’s usually just me eating it and while I can eat an entire cobbler, it’s not the best idea.

I have hear so much about US parties and BBQs. Us Canadians are too practical to seriously consider potato chips as an acceptable substitute for rice or potatoes. Also, if I tried to cook meat for 5 hours it wouldn’t be called BBQ, it would be charred
But, I can bring some ice cream supplies FF&F and we can show them what Ice cream is suppose to taste like.
I also want to eat pie with my supper. We don’t do that in Canada - again, to pragmatic to consider this ‘real’ food.
It ‘would’ be fun to see every-one’s faces…and Mark - I won’t smirk, I promise.

The party’s just startin’, deorre. Lots more to come! I think the band is almost ready to fire up.

count me in. It’s good as long as *I* don’t have to make it.
Sharing birthdays is so much fun, isn’t it? My mother’s uncle who passed away many, many years ago and I shared a birthday. From the time I could use a telephone until he died when I was about 8, I think, we would call each other on that day. There’s a special bond, like twins separated by time. Cheers to us!

Well, gracepub, you just haven’t been to a real barbeque. I pass on the chips, too, but sadly, I hear the steak and chicken on the grill calling my name the whole time. You can have whatever you want at our party, in whatever order you want. Fill a plate…or two..and come back for seconds, thirds, infinities…

Can’t get more “real” than a double helping of tortière with blueberry pie for afters… mmm…
